Jodie Friend
A Hoosier native, Jodie Friend has lived in Bloomington, Indiana since 1976, when she began working for Indiana University in the athletic department. A fundraiser and writer for the IU Varsity Club until 2002, Jodie had only dabbled in art and taken classes in drawing and color and design at IU. A painting class at the Waldron Art Center changed all that and Jodie has been happily painting ever since.
An impressionistic style and an appreciation for everyday scenery is reflected in her oil paintings; still lifes and figurative work also find a place. Jodie works primarily in her home studio, south of Bloomington. Classes with Ron Mack at the Southside Art League and workshops with Carolyn Anderson, Ken Auster, Quang Ho and Todd Williams have brought inspiration and sparked creativity for Jodie. “Every day that I paint is a good one and even the mistakes are happy ones”, Friend said. “There are so many talented and generous artists out there and it has been my pleasure to learn from some great ones.” Exhibiting at the Brown County Art Gallery in Nashville, Indiana is a special thrill for Jodie. “The Brown County Art Gallery Artists Association is the oldest continually operating artist group in Indiana and the heritage is so rich. It’s an honor to be among such prestigious artists and included in the tradition that defines Indiana art.”
